A women;s cooperative is actually responsible for producing the entire stock of argan oil and the revenues generated are shared with Berber women. The cooperative has helped over 3 million local people in some capacity, and the locals have benefited from improvements in education and health care because of the profits from the oil.
Choosing A Product
Cheaper oil is often added to the product, simply because it is so rare and hard to come by. Pure oil becomes semi solid at a temperature of around 2 degrees C, while if you keep it in the fridge, it will remain translucent and in a liquid form. Not surprisingly, pure oil costs a bit more, although even a small amount will last a long time.
Some oil is Ecocert certified and you can find companies online that sell this pure product, although you may have to shop around a little.
